As we continue to grow and expand our Inclusion team at DCVI, our philosophy remains the same, we want to create a positive inclusive learning environment that not only recognizes everyone's differences but builds on their strengths. We believe that everyone belongs and should work together. Some of these differences include sexuality, race, gender and individuals with special needs. No one should be left behind and although we all learn and interact differently, we should all be provided with the same opportunity and feel safe in our community and environments.
#Ourchapter was the big project, we did as a group last year, we found a video on John Draper’s website called "no more barriers" done in BC and we were inspired! We started out brainstorming as a larger group, we all did research that entailed calling the ministry of education, trying to contact the prime minister and looking online for credible facts about inclusion.
Once most of the brainstorming was finished and the script was written within 3 periods, three of us continued to work on filming and editing. We showed our script to our Principal April Smith and finalized a few small changes. We also connected with the board and got some specifics regarding why we believe inclusion is important at Avon Maitland District School Board. We worked with the videograher from the board and filmed our script on two separate occasions. As a result of our video, we have received an award of recognition from John Draper, a bursary from Community Living Ontario, |
